Firma Samsung opracowała pierwszy na świecie 8-megapikselowy układ fotograficzny przeznaczony specjalnie do telefonów komórkowych. Co prawda, układy o takiej rozdzielczości już znalazły się wcześniej w aparatach, ale ich rozmiary powodowały zwiększenie gabarytów urządzeń, w których były montowane.

Nowy układ do zdjęć to niecałe 2,5 cm długości i zaledwie 0,8 cm grubości. Oznacza to, że zajmie taką samą przestrzeń, co układy 3-megapikselowe. Ponadto, Samsungowi udało się zintegrować w urządzeniu autofokus. Osobno można dołączyć lampę błyskową. Rozpoczęcie produkcji jest przewidziane na pierwsza połowę 2008 roku.
